part b
And so begins the second half of this course. I'm hoping the group stuff sorts itself out so we can focus on the coursework rather than not upsetting anyone. I hate walking on eggshells and that's how I feel in this group.
The group itself is an interesting composition (here I go about to label each member - so much for diversity):
3 adult students
2 out lesbians
2 visible minorities
3 newcomers to Canada (one over 10 years, two 5 years or less)
5 white
1 special needs
2 mothers
1 single mother
and a variety of different SES, educations, religions, and preferences
One member has been clear she is uncomfortable with the subject matter and not looking forward to discussing racism. We'll see how it goes, but that attitude going into it is a bit worrisome.
